Mr. Daniel W. Myers was born in the spring of 1834. He may have been enslaved by Mr. Solomon Zepp. In 1850, Mr. Myers is enumerated with the Zepp household, as a free young man working on the farm.
He married Ms. Emeine Dorothy King in 1855. They had 10 children together, although only four were living in 1900.
In August of 1863, Mr. Myers enlisted in the 4th Regiment of the USCT. Following an injury, he worked as a teamster and a quartermaster. He served in Yorktown and Fort Fisher. Private Myers was discharged in May 1866.
He returned to his family in Westminster, working as a laborer on the local farms. In 1880, his household has expanded to include a number of their grandchildren.
Private Myers died in March of 1901, and is buried at Western Chapel Cemetery. His headstone says, “He has fought for his county,” which became clear after cleaning.
